The high cost of medical bills can often scare some people off from seeking treatment and visiting hospitals, but the launch of a new mobile solution in the form of the Kena Health app seeks to offer some respite.

The healthcare app, which is available to download on both iOS and Android, provides a network of doctors, nurses and mental health professionals to chat with via your smartphone.

These qualified healthcare practitioners are able to offer advice, diagnoses, prescriptions, sick notes, and even referrals to a specialist pathologist or other place of care, if needed.

Those who download and sign up via the app will be entitled to their first three consultations being free, with subsequent consultations starting from R160 each. Added to this is Linda, Kena’s digital assistant, which collects general information about the user’s condition to form part of the secure patient record.

For its initial rollout, Kena Health’s services are available from 08:00 to 18:00 every weekday and 08:00 to 14:00 on Saturdays.

“Our goal is to improve access to quality care by lowering cost. By creating an app that focuses on team-based healthcare, we’re able to do this, while actually improving the quality of health outcomes for each patient,” says Kena Health founder and CEO, Saul Kornik.

“Imagine, a whole team of nurses, doctors and mental health professionals looking after you! This means that, no matter your income level or where you live, with Kena Health you are invited in to receive services that provide the care you need, all while making you feel cared for and reassured that you’re going to be OK,” he enthuses.
